A pumpkin that showed up looking for someone
A collectible figurine that dresses a pumpkin in a poncho and a wide-brimmed hat and lets it squint at the middle distance. It is a seasonal display piece with an actual point of view, which is more than most autumn decor manages between the carved faces and the printed gingham.
A mantel that changes every October
Autumn decor is bought in a narrow window and stored the rest of the year, so it has to be worth the box space. This one earns it by being funny in a specific register rather than generically festive — it goes on a mantel, a hall table or a shop counter and does not look like everything else on the street. Printed at our Quebec farm.
Rendering brim and cloth
Printed in PLA at a 0.16 mm layer height on our own FDM machines. A hat brim and the fall of a poncho are both wide, thin surfaces; at this resolution they hold a clean edge instead of going soft, which is what keeps the silhouette reading from across a room.
Storing it between Octobers
It goes back in a drawer without tissue or a box, which is the practical advantage of a printed sculpture over a ceramic one. Eleven months in a cool cupboard does it no harm. Bring it out early — autumn decor that appears in the last week of October has already missed most of its season.
