Keep the product information and any supplied care instructions with your collection records, and ask for clarification when a method is not covered. A material name alone is not permission to wash, heat or repair a figurine.
Identify the piece before choosing a cleaning method
Find the exact product reference and chosen finish on your order. Note whether the piece has moving joints, glued accessories, a painted surface or a separate base. Do not assume that an item resembling another collectible was made from the same material or finished in the same way. This is especially important for gifts whose packaging has been discarded.
If you cannot identify the material or finish, limit care to gentle handling and ask the seller what is suitable. For future purchases, compare the item descriptions in the shop and save the relevant instructions rather than relying on a general catalogue description.
Routine dusting
Choose a clear, stable work surface before taking a piece off display. Check for loose details first. Where the item instructions permit, use a clean, soft, dry brush on accessible surfaces, with light strokes that do not catch on projections. A soft dry cloth may suit a broad, accessible base; do not pull it across thin accessories. Stop if the surface changes or a detail moves unexpectedly.
Do not scrape dirt out of layer lines or push tools into joint gaps. Avoid sprays, solvents, abrasive cleaners and heat. Dusting is different from stain removal: when gentle dry cleaning is insufficient, ask for a method suitable for that exact finish. Do not move directly to soaking, detergent or a dishwasher. There is no universal washing temperature for all printed collectibles.
Choose a suitable display location
Use a stable shelf with enough clearance to lift the object without catching its details. Keep the display away from direct sun, radiators, cooking appliances and other heat sources. A parked vehicle is not a suitable storage location. Do not infer outdoor suitability, waterproofing or a safe exposure limit from the colour or appearance of a print.
Allow room for the complete base and any projections. Check that doors, curtains and nearby objects cannot strike the figure. Display cases can help reduce dust, but still need space around the piece and a location away from heat. Decorative collectibles should be used according to their stated purpose and age guidance.
Moving parts and signs of damage
Move articulated parts only as the item instructions describe. If a joint resists, stop; do not force it through a full range or attempt to break it in. Do not add silicone, oil or another lubricant without instructions for that finished product. Stiffness can have more than one cause and is not a reason to apply more pressure.
For a crack, detached detail, warped surface or unexpected discolouration, photograph the whole piece and the affected area. Keep loose parts safely with the order reference. Do not try a heat gun, sanding, repainting or adhesive repair before obtaining advice. A suggested repair for a different material may be unsuitable here.
Long-term storage and a simple care kit
Before packing a seasonal display, record its condition and make sure it is dry. Retain suitable original packaging and label the box with the model and handling notes. Choose an indoor storage location away from heat and damp, and avoid placing heavy boxes on a delicate collection. Inspect pieces when bringing them back into use.
A modest care kit can consist of a dedicated soft dry brush, a clean cloth suitable for the item’s surface and a folder for instructions and order references. No chemical treatment is required simply because an object is 3D printed. Review its condition periodically rather than relying on a promised lifetime.
