The Articulated Creepy Gnome keeps the whole vocabulary — pointed hat, heavy beard, stout body — and turns the expression. The result is not a monster; it is a gnome that is looking at you slightly too long, which is a more uncomfortable thing to have on a desk.

Joints that carry the horror

Articulation is doing the storytelling here. Arms, legs and head all move, and because the underlying shape is so familiar, small deviations register strongly — a head tilted a few degrees too far, arms hanging wrong, a stance that is almost but not quite upright. The joints print in place, so there is no assembly and nothing to glue.

Texture at the details

The beard is textured rather than smoothed, the hat carries fabric folds, and the face is cut with enough depth to hold shadow. On a dark filament these details are what keep the figure from reading as a silhouette; without them a gnome shape in a dark colour just looks like a lump.

Build a scene or leave it alone

Because the poses are adjustable, this gnome scales to whatever tolerance you have. One, mildly wrong, at the back of a desk. Or several, staged across a shelf, all facing the same direction. It also survives being moved outdoors for a season, though PLA is happier out of prolonged sun.
