Where Design Ideas Come From
Every collectible in our catalog starts with an idea. Some ideas come from trending topics and customer requests. Others emerge from our design community — talented artists who see the world through a creative lens and translate their vision into printable 3D models.
We monitor online communities, social media trends, and seasonal patterns to identify designs that will resonate with collectors. When we see a surge of interest in a particular theme — say, Egyptian mythology or steampunk aesthetics — we work with our artists to develop designs that capture that energy.
Customer feedback is another crucial input. We pay close attention to which products sell well, which get the most positive reviews, and what people ask for in our contact forms. This data directly influences our design priorities.
The 3D Modeling Phase
Once a concept is approved, the modeling phase begins. Our artists use professional tools like ZBrush for organic sculpting, Blender for character modeling, and Fusion 360 for mechanical and articulated designs.
A single figurine design typically takes 20 to 40 hours to model, depending on complexity. Articulated designs with print-in-place joints can take even longer, as each joint must be precisely engineered with correct tolerances.
During modeling, the designer must constantly think about printability. Overhangs, thin walls, bridging distances, and support requirements all influence the final design. A beautiful 3D model is worthless if it cannot be reliably printed at scale.
Testing and Iteration
Before any design enters our production catalog, it goes through rigorous testing. We print multiple prototypes at different settings, evaluating detail quality, structural integrity, and overall appearance.
For articulated designs, testing is especially intensive. Joints must move freely without being too loose, and the model must survive normal handling without breaking. We often go through three to five prototype iterations before approving a design for production.
Community artist submissions go through the same testing process. We evaluate printability, visual appeal, and quality at scale before adding any design to our catalog. This ensures that every product we sell meets our standards, regardless of who designed it.
From Prototype to Production
Once a design passes testing, our slicing team creates optimized print profiles for our production printers. These profiles balance print quality with production efficiency — settings that produce the best visual result in a reasonable time frame.
The approved design enters our production queue and becomes available on our website. We maintain the digital files for every design, ready to print on demand whenever an order comes in.
Designs are never truly finished. We continuously refine our catalog based on customer feedback, printer upgrades, and new material options. A design that debuted six months ago may have been subtly improved through optimized print settings or better material choices.
